REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Zulkifli Hasan has stated that Indonesia supports Morocco in the Western Sahara issue involving separatist activities.

"Indonesia supports Morocco in the Western Sahara issue," Zulkifli Hasan said here on Friday.

The MPR Speaker received Moroccan Ambassador to Indonesia Mohamed Majdi in Jakarta. Among other topics, they also talked about the issue of Western Sahara.

Mohamed Majdi revealed that his country has been facing problems in Western Sahara. He added that the Western Sahara issue has to do with separatist activities.

According to Morocco, separatist activities in its territory have the financial backing of Algeria.

"Separatist activities have disrupted the territorial security of Morocco," he pointed out.

Majdi also revealed that the issue of Western Sahara has been brought to the attention of the UN Security Council. In fact, the UN Security Council has urged all the parties involved to submit a fair solution to the problem.

The Moroccan Ambassador to Indonesia argued that his country has been waiting for the views of other countries that can suggest a way out and support the granting of autonomy.

The topics of Western Sahara and Papua were recently discussed in a conference in Australia.

The MPR's chairman extended full support to Morocco to take the Western Sahara issue to proper conclusion.

"I think the granting of autonomy is a good idea. Indonesia will support it," Zulkifli emphasized.
