REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DAMASCUS -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said Iran will support a diplomatic solution to prevent terrorist massacres in Syria.
Larijani who arrived in Damascus International Airport today on an official regional tour added, 'We will back any solution based on public decisions.'
Criticizing certain parties which are seeking to decide for future of Syria, the speaker said, 'Of course, their efforts have proved futile and the main issue is that the Syrians take decisions for themselves.'
On Russia's plan for inter-Syrian talks, he said that Moscow is seeking a serious dialogue involving representatives of both the government and opposition.
Reiterating Iran's support to the Syrian nation and government, Larijani said that his visit to Damascus is aimed at discussing the current situation with the senior officials.
Larijani is scheduled to hold talks with President Bashar Assad, his Syrian counterpart, Mohammad Jihad al-Laham and Prime Minister Vael al-Halqi.
Larijani's region tour will take him to Beirut and Iraq respectively after the end of Damascus visit.
