Iran, Uzbekistan resolved to broaden ties

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DISHANBE -- President Hassan Rouhani and his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov in Dushanbe on Thursday underlined the resolve on both sides to enhance bilateral relations in all areas, economy, in particular.

During the meeting, President Rouhani called for making use of enormous capacities for economic cooperation between Iran and Uzbekistan.

Referring to Iran's geostrategic status in the region, Rouhani said that Iran is always a safe route for transit of commodities for regional countries, including Uzbekistan.

On Iran's interaction with the Western governments, the Iranian president said that Iran considers interaction to serve national interest and that Iran will never give up its legitimate rights.

In the meantime, the president of Uzbekistan voiced his country's readiness for further promotion of economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Karimov proposed that a joint committee be formed to pursue the implementation of agreements already signed between the two countries.

He hailed President Rouhani's moderation, prudence and tolerance as a big lesson for world politicians.

"I have been monitoring the situation in Iran over the past one year and saw that under your administration, Iran has made great progress."

IRNA reporter in Dushanbe said that President Rouhani invited President Karimov to visit Iran which was welcomed by the Uzbek President.
