Palestinian Ambassador meets with Jokowi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Fariz Mehdawi, met with Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo, talking on promising cooperation between Palestine and Indonesia.

"This visit is aimed to discuss future cooperation between Palestine and Indonesia. It will involve cities and local government," Mehdawi said after meeting the Governor Jokowi on Thursday.

Mehdawi mentioned that Jakarta and Jerusalem once signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in 2007. "We want to make it real. Jakarta is the sister city of Jerusalem," he said.

Soon, 500 Palestinians will come to Indonesia, including Jakarta, to follow capacity building program, particularly on fire brigade. Mehdawi thanked Indonesia for providing the program.

Meanwhile, Jokowi said Jakarta and Jerusalem would hold staff exchange. "We will send our staff to Palestine to study on public work, urban design, and others. So will Palestine," he said. Jokowi also hopes that the cooperation will be realized soon.
